I have finished a few more products in the past couple of weeks *simultaneous happy and sad face*. Keep on reading for my thoughts on the Glossier Priming Moisturiser Rich, the Skinceuticals Retinol 0.3 and the Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate and if I would repurchase…
Glossier Priming Moisturiser Rich
I got this as a gift at Christmas so it has taken me over 7 months to finish the pot! Back in December last year when I put this on my Christmas wish list, I was handling my dry winter skin issue in the wrong way and thought that loading heavy moisturiser onto my face every day was the answer. Once I realised that layering hydrating serums and lighter moisturisers worked far better for my skin and significantly reduced the dryness, I found that I didn’t enjoy using heavier moisturisers anymore.
The Priming Moisturiser Rich contains astrocaryum murumuru seed butter and shea butter, which makes it thick and rich in consistency. It also contains ceramides which are brilliant for the skin’s barrier function. The cream smells like lavender (it includes lavender oil so if you are sensitive to essential oils, steer clear!) which was quite nice and relaxing in the evening before bed but felt a little strange when used in the morning. I also hate scooping moisturiser out of a pot!
I used this moisturiser now and then, usually when my skin was particularly dry from using retinol, which is why it has taken so long to use up. I won’t be repurchasing this, but if you love using a heavy moisturiser, you may love it!
Skinceuticals Retinol 0.3
I bought this serum when I had the chance to get 40% off Skinceuticals products and I’m so glad I did. As I've discussed before, retinol stimulates the production of new skin cells, which helps to reduce fine lines, firm the skin and help with skin discolouration.
Unlike products that use traditional encapsulation technology, Skinceuticals claims to have ‘an innovative delivery system that captures and stabilises the retinol’ and ‘contains an innovative delivery system based on the skin’s lipid structure to help ensure absorption.’
I started off using this product twice a week and I definitely saw some irritation and peeling for the first six weeks. I built up to using it three to four times a week without any peeling. I did find that while using this, I couldn’t use the acid products that I used before or my skin would get super sensitive - particularly the Alpha H Liquid Gold.
It was a brilliant treatment for evening out my complexion and getting rid of any pigmentation I had on my skin, I’m now completely confident going out with a very light base during the day (I normally just wear tinted SPF now). I'm sure with continued consistent use it would keep fine lines away. It is extremely important to be vigilant with wearing SPF every day if you are regularly using retinol or it will undo all of the benefits!
I now want to bump up to something stronger (the Neostrata Retinol + NAG complex). The long game is to build up my tolerance to retinol to the point where I’m able to use Tretinoin. Tretinoin is a pharmaceutical form of retinoic acid available only by prescription and is considered the gold standard in anti-aging topicals.
Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate
I bought this in the airport on the way back from New York because it was a lot cheaper than in the UK and as I mentioned above, I love a hydrating serum and had wanted to try this one.
Clinique describes this product as a ‘supercharged water-gel hydrator that instantly quenches dehydrated skin—and is so intensely hydrating, it boosts skin's moisture reservoir for a full 24 hours. Liquid-Sphere Technology combines water-binding ingredients with encapsulated antioxidants to help break the cycle of dryness and environmental stress that can lead to premature aging.’
I found that this was a lovely serum to use in the morning under my moisturiser and SPF, it sunk in right away and did provide hydration all day. The antioxidants are a great benefit for added daily protection against the sun and pollution and I also like that this serum is fragrance free and oil-free. I won’t be repurchasing at the moment because there are other similar products from other brands that I would like to try out but next time I am at the airport, I’m sure I’ll pick this up!
